And a belated congrats to the star player

I should've posted this last week, but we here at MySABlogs happily clap Ramiro Burr on the back for his "Online Impact" award at the True Awards.

Burr has combined his own credibility (even celebrity) within the Latin Music scene with solid blogging techniques and a relentless determination to make his Latin Notes Now month-in and month-out our top-performing blog.

Those who only see the numbers have no idea how much thought and planning Ramiro puts into his blogging ... I'll be honest, I find it amazing.

Just take a look at what he tacks onto the bottom of his posts:

I wish I could tell you that's all generated by some great code I pulled out of the great beyond, but it's not. That's hand-coded, by Ramiro!

It's that sort of dedication to the craft that's made him a top performer, and an award winner.

Again, belated congrats!

Belated Awesomeness

I'm way late on this, and for that I apologize, but Roy Bragg and Cathy Rosenthal were on the spot last week in getting online reaction, respectively, to the Virginia Tech shootings and another (relatively) local incident of pet poisoning.

This is best practice, y'all. If something happens — even nationally — in an area you feel qualified to blog in, Blog about it!

I mean ... it'll help to have something to say, of course, but moving quickly puts your blog front and center for a period of time, and that's always a good thing. Remember, we're building community here, and you can help make that happen by making your readership grow and interact. A good way of doing that? The two examples above.

(Good taste prevents me from handing out "pwned" awards for these two tragic occurances, but consider this the higher-browed alternative.)

This is belated, but ...

For last week's fantastic, timely wall-to-wall coverage of Captain America's death — by turns reverent, cheeky, and, overall, packed with data — the Geek Speak Crew pull down the honors for our second ... umm ... periodic(?) PWNED! Award!

Congrats guys!

Mad Propz to Larry's Aisle Seat!

So I'm sitting around waiting for the Big Shift to start this morning, and casually remarking to a coworker how cool it would be if Larry Ratliff had a quick Oscar localization in his blog.

Alas, I say, Larry's probably either still on the road at the Sundance Film Festival, or recovering from the journey home.

And then, what happens?

I get a quick Oscar localization from Larry, complete with details on S.A. resident Jackie Earle Haley's nomination for best supporting actor and a very brief rundown on the rest of the field ... with a handy link to see all the noms.

Within, what, a half hour or so? Simply awesome ... inspiring me to, on the spot, make Larry Ratliff the inaugural recipient of our (probably) Weekly "Pwned!" Award!

Never heard of it? Well, that's likely cuz I just made it up ...

But it gets even better ...

Not only does Larry get the "Pwned!" award for his on-the-spot coverage of the Oscar noms, he also earns an exceedingly rare "two-fer" for his solid work blogging from Sundance.

So, Larry, these are for you:

(Not sure what they hell this "pwned!" business is? If you're not a geeky online gamer type, like me, you probably don't. Explanation[s] here.)
