Alternate method for dealing with quote marks

Some people have made the entirely rational point that they can't fiddle with their Word settings to abolish the curly quotes, cuz it might mess things up in CCI.

If that's your situation, consider the following, slightly more complicated method. And, notice is given, this involves using ASCII code.

For the uninitiated, ACSII code is simply a method of telling Movable Type you want to use a specific character that you might not be able to produce using your keyboard. We've visited this in the past when dealing with things like tildes and accent marks.

In this instance, we're using two basic codes:

' for apostrophes

" for quote marks

(These provide your basic, straight up-and-down quote marks. If you want curlies, knock yourself out.)

Just place these codes where you want the quote marks and apostrophes to appear:

"Testing this, please." And end quotes. Can't.

Will net you:

One method I would suggest is, open up MS Word and do a search-and-replace, quote marks with " and apostrophes with ':

TWO THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND IF USING THIS TECHNIQUE:

1.) Make sure you don't have a space after the code in the "Replace With" box, or that will be replicated throughout the post.

2.) This WILL affect any quote marks you have in links.

So, be really careful.

And contact me if you have any further questions.
